Zadar

Zadar is a city full of contrasts: alongside Roman ruins, medieval churches and Venetian heritage, you will also find modern works of art.

Between antiquity and modern art

Zadar is particularly famous for its unique installations on the waterfront: the Sea Organ and the Greeting to the Sun. The Sea Organ is an architectural masterpiece - the movement of the waves creates sounds that fill the city with a very special atmosphere. Right next to it is the “Greeting to the Sun” square, a huge light installation that is particularly spectacular at sunset.

The old town is a real treasure trove. The Roman Forum is a reminder that Zadar was once an important Roman colony. Right next to it stands the imposing Church of St. Donatus - a circular building from the 9th century, famous for its acoustics. Concerts are held here during the summer months, making the historical ambience even more impressive.

Zadar is surrounded by numerous islands and is perfect for boat trips. We recommend a tour to the Kornati Islands, an archipelago of over 80 small islands that are part of the national park. If you prefer to stay on the mainland, then a day trip to the Plitvice Lakes, which are world-famous for their turquoise waterfalls, is worthwhile.

Like many other Croatian cities, Zadar offers a wide selection of traditional dishes as well as modern restaurants with a contemporary flair. Pet Bunara is known for its fresh local ingredients. Foša, right on the waterfront, offers upscale Dalmatian cuisine.
